“We will stay here again when we visit!”

We went to WV for a family wedding, and the convenience of Hawk's Nest was unbeatable!! Hawks Nest was literally 5 minutes from the wedding site and other family homes! The other wedding guests stayed in the closest hotels, which were 20 minutes away in Fayetteville, so they drove a lot while there, which was unfortunate considering it was blizzard conditions! But we were so close!! The free breakfast was fantastic, and the view was unbeatable!! This was one of the nicest visits I've ever had anywhere, and couldn't believe we got this comfort and service from a State Park Lodge!! We will definately be staying here if we visit again!!

“Beautiful place!”

My husband and I stayed in this place for two nights when we visited a couple of places in West Virginia. The building was gorgeous and very clean, and the view from the balcony was superb. After being in other noisy hotels, I was happy to sleep two whole nights without interruptions. Also, the scenery of the park was striking. We were very satisfied with this experience.

“Beautiful view!”

Our check in went smoothly. We were shown to our room which was a scenic view. We stayed for 2 days and the lodge and the surrounding community of Ansted were wonderful.! Don't miss going to the flower shop and the Blue Smoke shops in town. There are some wonderful overlooks. The New River Gorge Bridge is only 12 miles away. Very historic sights in the area are well worth going to.

“Can't beat the location or the view”

I recently stayed at the Hawk's Nest resort for two nights while on a 5 day motorcycle tour of the area. First off, you can't beat the location for proximity to Skyline Dr, the Blue Ridge Parkway and the local twisty roads (watch out for the deer!). Numerous whitewater rafting outfits around as well; try Class VI or Ace Adventures. I had a corner suite with nice couch, TV, fireplace and small fridge and microwave. But the real star was the balcony and long views over the forest valley and river. There's a trail to a lookout over the upper river and dam as well as a tram that takes tours down to the river where they offer jetboating. The pool was nice. The hotel is fairly old which can either be taken as charming or run down. The tiles and caulking in the shower were cracked. For me, I'd take that over a sterile chain any day in a tradeoff for the view. The dining room, which I read had new management was a big disappointment. The steak was ridiculously thin with no chance of being served medium rare. It should be noted that the hotel is dry (no alcohol) perhaps due to being in a state park. The continental breakfast was fine and quite adequate. Again, the views from the digning room make up for a lot. Overall, I'd stay there again but eat elsewhere for dinner. Hopefully they will get better but we found great places not far away.

“Great place to relax”

My family chose a roomy 2 room suite with 2 outdoor patios. This is an older property but well maintained with numerous updates. It has gorgeous views of the new river valley and surrounding hills. The indoor spaces are slighly dark and quirky but give the property character. Our room had the original baby blue tile in the bathroom with updated earth toned counter tops. There was a combination bottle opener / corkscrew mounted to the door fram and a large flat screen TV in the living room. WiFi worked beautifully. I would definately stay there again. The Hawks Nest is a great alternative to the local chain hotels.

“Nice hotel, great view”

The lodge is in a beautiful location. The room's balcony had a fantastic view of the New River valley. The lodge is older but well maintained. The included continental breakfast was good and had some hot items on it. I would stay there again and recommend it to others. If you choose to eat elsewhere the nearby town of Lafeytte was some unique reasturants with excellant food.

“"not Impressed"”

The view surrounding the lodge was amazing, quiet and very beautiful. We had been travelling for 9 days and the room we got was not very impressive. It was very small, the carpet was damp, the water to the shower was so hard to turn on,and bags of garbage were piled up outside our door, and in 86 degree heat it stunk !!! The staff was friendly. We may return to the lodge again, but will pass on staying at the lodge.
