This is a budget hotel with minimal amenities. It's cheaper than other hotels in central Amsterdam, although still VERY expensive by US standards. The location is great, only a 10 min walk from the Rijksmuseum, on a relatively quiet street. It's a 30+ min walk from the Central Train station, not that bad. No toiletries of any kind, so bring your own. Our room was very plain, as plain as they come.
Make sure that the window(s) in your room close tightly. Ours did not and consequently it was rather noisy at night since it faced the street. We got another room the next day.
Given that central Amsterdam is so $$, I recommend staying further away from center and rely on public transportation. Trams run very frequently so it's not much of an issue. You may even consider staying in other towns, e.g., Haarlem, as round-trip tickets cost about 9 euros and trains run every 10 min.
