“Wonderful stay”
The hotel is a historial building, very well preserved, clean room, excellent customer service, I highly recommend it.
“Extraordinary Luxury”
Upon check in, the The Grand offered us a free upgrade from the Prestige Suite we booked to the Imperial Suite. The difference was huge. The Imperial Suite was enormous and extraordinarily luxurious, and was replete with fresh flowers everywhere, free wine and fresh fruit, 1.5 baths, monstrous living quarters, a glorious master bathroom, a steam shower, butler service, modern electronics, and THE most comfortable bed/pillows. The hotel is nice generally, but this upgraded room (which retails for 3 times what we paid) helped make our Amsterdam stay unforgettable. Aside from the remarkable room, the hotel extrance is an old-style very "grand" courtyard, which leads into a modernly furnished and attractive lobby. The staff was outstanding. Areas of the newly refurbished Spa were still under construction (end of Sept), but The Grand offers a good-sized indoor pool which was open and wonderful. The only mild negative we experienced pertains to the hallways. While they look very clean, they are definitely old-style and had a slightly musty smell. This really wasn't a problem because those hallways led us to our extremely clean and glorious suite. But the hallways did create a rather unusual dichotomy: Old-style architecture and entrance courtyard, very modern lobby, old-style corridors, very modern suite. Not a problem, just unusual. We had a truly wonderful hotel experience and one we'll surely always remember among our all-time best. The Grand gets my highest recommendation.
“Beautiful hotel, excellent ambiance.”
The rooms are very well appointed and are very clean. The fitness facilities were adequate and the free internet access from the business center was useful for online check in for the homeward journey. The staff are very helpful and very courteous. The only complaint was that I had requested adjoining rooms at the time of booking (the children could have one and we would have the other). On checking in they said this was OK but we found the two rooms were separated by another room in the middle. They had several months to plan in this simple request. They did say I should have used the phrase inter connected. I would definitely use this hotel again - and would use the appropriate phrase to ensure my needs were understood.
“Always a pleasure to stay there”
One of my favorite hotels in Amsterdam.
“Very helpful staff and wonderful hotel”
This hotel is in an excellent location for Dam Square and its amenities. Although very expensive to stay, the beds were exceptionally comfortable and the best nights sleep we have had in a hotel so far! The staff are very nice and can't seem to do enough to help.
“A fantastic hotel in Amsterdam - within walking distance of almost everything”
We have not been to Amstedam before, but have stayed in many hotels in Europe and this hotel is up there with the best of them. We stayed in a Superior room and the quality was excellent, but I recommend booking through Expedia and not direct with the hotel as one got a much better deal - so much so that the flight was effectively free, with some change left over. Anyone thinking a buffet breakast is boring needs to eat here just once - the complimentary champagne was lovely. The Reception/Concierge services were excellent and the quality of housekeeping in the rooms was exemplary. The spa/pool/sauna was just like a high quality gym and not a hotel's excuse for a facility - well done. I will be returning soon and have no doubt that we will be staying here again.
“Great Location”
Stayed at the Grand for two nights. It is an elegant hotel 2 blocks from Dam square and one block from the red light district. We had a newly remodeled room which was small by American standards but average by European standards. Service was very good and staff was extremely helpful in answering questions and giving recommendations. Comfy bed. Only real complaints were that the water pressure and temp in the shower could be better. I would call it warm and not hot. Water coming out of the sink next to the shower was scalding in comparison. A call down to maintenance was promptly attended but didn't really change the temp. All in all a good hotel in a great location. I would definitely stay there again.
“Great hotel”
This hotel is most probably one of the best. Staying a Saturday night is however noisy at night, even with the windows closed, considering the proximity to the Red Light district. Besides that, everything was perfect!
“Moderne et chargé d'histoire”
Chargé d'histoire, sans ostentation, la grande classe. Le mobilier est moderne, dans les nuances du pays, jouant des lignes et des contrastes. Climatisation de la chambre efficace et discrète. Le document audiovisuel de présentation avec l'historique du lieu est remarquable.
“A truly five star hotel”
The Grand is the place to stay when in Amsterdam. It is not too big, giving it an intimate feeling. I enjoyed the low key staff, the excellent room that felt more like a home bedroom with the advantage of not having to do any home bedroom chores. I am sorry that I could stay only one night.....
