“Unique Hotel in Quiet Amsterdam Neighborhood”

The Lloyd Hotel occupies a newly renovated historic building in the Eastern Docklands neighborhood in Amsterdam. Clean, minimalist design is the focus here-- rather than uniform drabness or chintziness that typifies many other hotels. Architects worked with the exisiting, sometimes quirky shapes of rooms to create unique spaces. My room was light and airy, situated in a corner of the top floor of the hotel, and had a slanted ceiling and angled window... I liked this-- it feels like you're staying in special, thoughtfully arranged room, not a cookie-cutter box. The restaurant SNL inside the hotel had a comprehensive menu that looked quite good, although I took the recommendation of the friendly and very competent front desk staff and ate at an excellent casual Italian place (Oceana) nearby. The hotel also organizes art exhibits and cultural events in its spacious lobby, and there are several little cafes and restaurants nearby. Hotel staff were young and hip, as were many of the guests, although I spotted a few older business types. Although the hotel is located on the quiet canals in the east of the city, it's only a short tram ride into the city center-- both the 10 and the 26 tram pass within a block from the hotel. I was only sorry I couldn't stay longer-- I will certainly stay at the Lloyd next time I am in Amsterdam.

“Quirky gem”

Great, quirky hotel. Not central, but the better for it, a great escape from the centre of town - in the up and coming Eastern dock area, surrounded by the best modern architecture in Amsterdam. 4* room was was modern, stylish, with character, if a little basic. Friendly staff, tho not always the most effcient. A quick and easy trip into town on the tram that runs about every 10 minutes.

“lovely hotel with lots of charm”

A lovely hotel with lots of charm, the staff where warm and frendly which makes a plesant change from other hotels i'v stayed in in Amsterdam, this being our 10th trip to the city. room service was quick and the food was good and the prices where very good compared to the center. As a base it was easy to get a tram to central a two minute walk to tram stop and less than four to centrum on a tram, and if you miss the last tram at midnight a taxi was only 10 euros. The room we had (117)was a corner room with an open plan design the shower was behind a partision which opend up into the room, the toilet was where you would expect to find it. The lighting was ambeint with dimmers on everything which sets a cool mood at night. We asked for a double bed when we booked the room and got two singles pushed together which was a shame but the room more than maid up for it, the furneshings where all new and with a wood floor the hole effect was of a clean open space with an ambient feel, we loved it and will go back.

“A real gem of a hotel”

I was initially intrigued by the Lloyd Hotel's 1-5 star philosophy where you can decide on the level of comfort you get. We plumped for a three star room and were presented with an extremely large, beautifully appointed corner room with one of the most comfortable beds I've ever experienced in a European hotel. This hotel is definitely design led but i'm glad to say it is not form over function. Our room had an ingenious split room where you could open the entire door to the bathroom and it split the room into two. A sponge mop was provided to push the water down the plug hole. Cool :). Free internet access was provided both wired and wireless. Buffet breakfast was delicious and varied and my partner had bacon and eggs that did not disappoint. Don't be put off by the supposed "out of city" location, as it is a 8 minute tram ride on the brand new Sneltram 26 lijn. I will always try and stay here on future trips! All in all a five star experience.

“Comfortable and clean”

Our room was very comfortable for 2 kids and 2 adults with a separate area for each. The open bathroom was a bit unusual but worked out for us fine.

“Quirky and great!”

We got a very interesting room -- the shower folded out of the wall. Exactly what we were looking for -- creative architecture combined with great amenities. The shower arrangement (no curtain, no door) is great for couples, but it'd probably be a bit awkward for a family.

“Very satisfied. I would definitely go back again.”

The hotel is very clean and the room is kept very neat. It is very peaceful and serene as it is right by the waters. I've enjoyed my visit there very much. The staffs are friendly and very helpful. The tram is right behind the hotel and it is quick and inexpensive to get around the city. I definitely recommend it to my friends and family. Nancy.
