“quiet and convenient”
clean, many options in cold breakfast (included), nice garden. less trendy than expected, as the website advertises an ian schrager aesthetic: hotel is located within a suburban apartment building, there is no elevator or climate control. we had a room on the top floor and it was VERY hot by early evening (in the summer). rooms are spare if well-furnished. one negative: wireless signal was not as strong as it should have been in the building (it was not working for 2 days over the weekend). the computer in the lobby, however, is free for guests. farther from city center than other options but still very convenient. 2 trams stop on the doorstep and 1 stops around the corner (there are also buses). tram ride on the 4 to centraal station took a little under half and hour, and on the 12 to the museums took less than 15 minutes. recommended overall.
“Great Mod Hotel”
Great mod hotel with friendly staff. Rooms were minimalistic, cozy, and bright. Bathrooms were up to date with all amenities. No lift in the hotel so you might want to stay on lower floors. Will be staying here again on our next trip to Amsterdam.
“A solid European-style hotel - with both the pros and cons”
If you are only accustomed to American-style hotels, then you will probably find the Hotel V a bit of a shock. Here are the things you won't be used to: (1) No elevators. (2) Extremely steep, narrow stairways. (3) Small, dorm-style rooms with one twin bed (if you're in a single room). (4) The need to electrically lower a metal roller cover over your windows for complete nighttime privacy (the thin curtains alone won't do it). (5) The need to buzz the reception at the front door in order to get into the building, no matter the time of day. (5) Very little acoustic isolation between floors and between rooms. You WILL know when your neighbors are coming and going, and probably even what they're doing when they're in their room. The reverse is of course also true. If you're on your honeymoon, or if you are easily awoken by the clatter of other guests returning late at night (a common pattern in Amsterdam), then you'll probably prefer a place with more privacy -- if you can find one. The important thing to keep in mind is that the above issues are the norm for older hotels in European cities. Because I've stayed in many, I knew what to expect, and I was actually pleasantly surprised: friendly, helpful staff; clean, renovated rooms; decent (if basic) breakfast buffet. Rooms have free WiFi, so if you bring a laptop, you can look up tourist attractions etc. from your room. There is also a public computer in the lobby which is usually not being used.
“un peu déçu”
Le site internet est très bien fait !!!!!!! MAIS L'hotel ne mérite pas les 3 étoiles annoncées et le prix même pour Amsterdam est cher pour la qualité de la chambre..... Si le personnel est très sympathique les chambres sont exigues et il ne faut pas craindre la montée des marches. L'hôtel est situé à 4/5 km du centre dans un quartier banal et les taxis sont chers (20 euros);le tramway cependant est proche......
“Mixed feelings”
I found the bed much too soft, actually formed a "V" when I layed in it. The view was very nice, small tree filled courtyard. The walls are extremely thin so be prepared to hear your neighbors doing daily activities. It was quite in the evening and the staff were very accommodating.
“Minimal but Nice”
This hotel is a great place to sleep, grab a good breakfast, and store your gear. There are no extra attractions or ammenities. The bed was a bit too soft for my taste but adequate. I was glad I'd packed flip flops for the shower. I was in the newer non-smoking area and the stairs were steep and winding so if your knees are not what they used to be, take this into consideration. The staff was helpful and accomodating. The neighborhood is quiet and filled with shops and small eating establishments. There are bakeries and grocery stores near by. Many places do not take credit cards-cash only! A couple of nearby tram lines will get you anywhere you want to go.
“Sympa et correct pour un 2 étoiles”
Hôtel correct dans l'ensemble. Bien pour un 2 étoiles. Le personnel est sympa, discret et disponible. Le plus, pas loin des lignes de Tram qui passent toutes les 5 min. Commerces à coté le petit déjeuner est très bien Le moins Voisins de chambre bruyantes lit pas très confortable mais bon ça passe les croissants surgelés
