A beautiful heritage hotel. We highly recommend staying here. Very steep stairs with no elevator, but if you are able bodied, you couldn’t ask for a better hotel. The canal view room was spectacular! The staff is friendly & helpful. Beware taxis cancel without notice.

The beds were comfortable. It was quiet. Safe area. Walking distance to everything. We did not like that there was zero entrance availability until AFTER you were checked in. It was about 9:30 and still no reception available. We flew all night, just wanted to drop our bags if our room wasn’t ready. There was a 30€ city tax charge on arrival that was not mentioned when my reservation stated all taxes and charges incld. However, this is common in Amsterdam everywhere.

Overpriced and cramped quarters
We had a family (2 adults, 2 teenage boys) trip to Amsterdam and stayed at Hotel Hegra for 4 nights. We had a great time in the city but were unfortunately disappointed with the hotel. Will try to provide a balanced and objective review. Firstly, the pros. I will say that the location is spectacular. A beautiful cozy street directly on the canal, in the center of pedestrian Amsterdam, walking distance from most everywhere you may want to see as a tourist. The building itself is a classic multi-story building from the olden days of Amsterdam. It certainly has its charm, but does come with some downsides, such as a narrow staircase (no elevator), thin walls (can hear other guests at all hours of the night), and scratching noises from within the walls (which may have been rodents, but I did not see any so cannot say for sure). Our biggest problem with this hotel was the very small size of the room. The 4 of us barely fit into a quadruple room. No closets or furniture besides the beds. A small foldable luggage rack was at the foot of each bed for our suitcases, out of which we lived. The walking space was limited, very cramped. Bottom line, we found the room very uncomfortable, not one we wanted to spend any time in. The management was unfortunately not receptive. The front desk is manned for only a few hours each day. I reached out to them via their website to discuss and did not get any response. On top of that it was very expensive. Poor value, would not stay here again.

Lovely and cozy stay
Great stay in the classic historical building. It is very cozy feeling. There is no elevator, but the staff is super helpful in getting your bags up to your room. Great view of the canal and delightful juice and coffee machines available. Great location close to everything but not loud since it’s a straight off from main shopping areas

Very old building but great location
The view is amazing, and location was perfect if you want to walk or bike around. Be advised this building is very old so single pane windows and no AC. The weather was cold so the main heat in the building was on and my room was so hot I had to get the key from management to open the window. The window has no screen and opens up to the street so I could not keep it open. The noise level is high since right on the street as well. You can hear every time another person comes in or out, or the rooms above you. The room is very small, and the lighting is not good. This hotel felt more like a hostel to me, I felt like I was staying in a room in someone's house. If you are looking for a spacious room or comfort or quiet, I would not recommend this hotel.

We had a lovely stay at Hegra. The location is right in the heart of everything: shopping, bakeries and restaurants all close by. The front desk service was wonderful and the coffee machine was an extra bonus. Rooms were on the smaller side, but they made use of all the space in a smart and efficient way. My tween daughters and I would definitely stay here again!

This boutique hotel has the nicest staff and very accommodating! You need to know there is no lift and stairs are very much old Amsterdam. We loved sitting at the cafe table on the canal in front with wine in the evening watching the tour boats go by as well as all the locals pass by. The neighborhood is so nice, clean and close walk to everything.

I really enjoyed my 4 nights at this hotel. The rooms are very small but the location is great. There are no amenities in the rooms but the front desk staff will make you a coffee if you ask for it.

We stayed here our first night in Amsterdam (flew into Amsterdam from USA and then immediately left the next day to fly to Ireland). This hotel is clean, in a great location, and Paolo, the person to check us in at the desk, was incredibly friendly and a great conversationalist. The only downside to this property, like most if not all in Amsterdam, are the stairs. Our room was on the highest floor which meant we had to go up about 5 flights of incredible small, tight, and narrow staircases. That is not the fault of the hotel of course, but something to think about if you are planning on staying here.

Our room was on the 4th floor…attic space…so climbing this every steep steps was a challenge for us seniors. Staff was very helpful and accommodating. Hotel was well located

The staff at Hotel Hegra are amazing! Very sweet and funny. They answered all of our questions while we there and afterwards, when I discovered I left my AirPods in the room, they mailed them back to me. A+
