“Great low budget place... excellent location.... alpine hike to front desk”
If you want to save money and be centrally located in Amsterdam... this is the place for you. The service is friendly... the rooms clean and modest... and oh ... by the way... the stairs.... the stairs the stairs the stairs... just think alpine hike. Many many stairs ... feel the burn... for real. 12x12, 65 degree angle. I truly dug this joint...it was very comfy and nice... did i mention the stairs?
“more than sufficient”
Obviously this is not a 5-star hotel. That being said, it was more than sufficient for someone wanting an inexpensive place with all the basics. The staff were friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean, and it had everything you need- bed, toilet, shower and roof. The location was great-- everything in downtown Amsterdam within minutes on foot. The staircases are certainly steep, but you get used to it.
“cheap and cheerful”
its Amsterdam the hotel is only fit for putting your cases in and sleeping but lots looked the same very central free brekkie eggs cheese bread jam butter tea
“Galerij Hotel - Cheap & Cheerful”
If you are looking for cheap, clean, basic accomodation - look no further. The Galerij Hotel is about 2 minutes walk from Dam Square, the room was cleaned each day, we had fresh towels and the beds were comfortable. I have stayed in quite a few badget hotels in Amseterdam over the years and this one is definitely excellent value for money.
“Very basic hotel, but clean and in the best location”
The hotel is in a great location. 3 minutes walk to Dam square and 10 minutes walk to train station. Many cafe and shop close by. both tram and boat stops very close to the hotel. It is a very very basic hotel, but the room is very clean. Each floor has an extra WC(very clean as well), so if you stay in a room with 3 or 4 people, which I did. The extra WC was very useful. The staffs were OK, they don't talk much, but they were friendly. Breakfast was included, you get white or brown bread, cheese, different jam, butter... boiled egg and tea or coffee. Again very basic, but everything was freah, so I actually enjoyed it. The staires can be a bit of problem if you have large suitcase. Overall, the hotel is good, If you plan to spend most of your time out about and only go back for sleep. Then this is the best hotel you can find with this price.I'll go back and use it again if I go to Amsterdam again.
“Cozy & Safe”
We stayed at this hotel for our honeymoon. The decor was not luxurious and it was lacking a few amenities that I normally like to have (i.e. TV & own toilet), but everything was clean and cozy. A double bed was not available, but they allowed us to rearrange the twin beds. We felt very safe here and it was a good value for the price. The location was terriffic for all tourist activities and the staff was friendly. We would stay here again, but would look for a hotel with a double bed first :)
“Adequate hotel in an excellent location”
This hotel isn't the greatest, but it really isn't that bad for the price and location. We had a room with a balcony which was nice. The room itself was rather small and the carpet shows obvious signs of wear. The room did have a shower and a sink and the toilet was close to the room. The bed sheets and towels were changed daily. Like others have have said there are a lot of stairs, we were on the top floor and counted 74 to our room from the front door. When you first get there you will have to be buzzed in and will have to climb what probably is two flights of stairs. Breakfast was boiled eggs and bread with butter, jelly, and peanut butter, not really bad but we skipped it about half the time we were there. The staff was friendly, but I think there were only two of them working 12 hour shifts. They know what room we were in and gave us the right key without us having to ask.
“Excellent value for money, but no use to anyone who has difficulty climbing stairs!”
Having read some of the negative reviews for this hotel, I was a bit sceptical about booking it. However, I took a chance as the intention was simply to use it 'to get my head down at night'. It turned out to be excellent value for money, the staff (I only saw 2 people, one of whome seemed to work 24/7), were very friendly and helpful. There was a good basic breakfast (0830 - 100Hrs), and the hotel was about a 10 minute walk from Dam Square and the Anne Frank House. Only negative point to this accommodation, was the extremely steep (almost vertical) stairs to the reception level. It's then take a breath an up again for another 37 steps if you are based at the top - this time in two stages.
“Good location / price trade-off”
Basic, but functional and helpful staff. Good location too, good value for money.
“better than expected”
After reading reviews our expectations werent that great, but we were pretty happy with the hotel, bearing in mind the amount of money we had paid. Staff were helpful, clean towels everyday and nice coffee for breakfast. The dining room is small though so we did miss breakfast one morning because it was full. For those with a small budget i`d definately recommend as the location is brilliant, just a few minutes walk from dam square.
