“Top Notch Hotel”
Absolutely wonderful! Friendly and helpful front desk staff. Great location with Tram lines 1, 2, and 5 next to hotel. Room was surprisingly large; larger than any we have stayed in Europe for the price. Will definitely stay here again if ever in Amsterdam.
“A few days in Amsterdam”
Very helpful staff, great location for sightseeing.
“amsterdam has it all”
excellent place to stay friendly and helpful staff would definitely go back there soon loads to do for couples families and singles
“Very convenient hotel”
We had a little problem with the tram getting to the hotel, were told the wrong number and had a long walk in the dark. However, this was not the fault of the hotel, which made us feel very welcome. The room was large, clean and tidy but overlooked the rear of the hotel which was a little disappointing. Breakfast was good with a wide choice of items on the buffet. We tried a place advertising "English Breakfast" and got ripped off asking for scrambled eggs to replace fried. They charged us for both saying that scrambled were more expensive!!!! Hotel is very central for attractions and the Leidseplein for restaurants. Also tram stops are very close. We only stayed 4 days and paid each time for trams as many attractions are within walking distance. All in all a good hotel.
“Wouldn't stay anywhere else!”
A lovely, quiet hotel situated within walking distance of museums, cafes, shops, and one of the most picturesque canals in the city. This was our second stay at the Dikker and Thijs and we can't wait to return!
“Home away from home”
People always complain about the rooms in Europe being so small. This is not the case at this hotel. I booked a Superior Double room and we could have held a ball in it. We overlooked the canal and it was wonderful. It is a party spot near the Leidesplein area so take ear plugs but go and enjoy the room with the windows open all night. The front desk was very accomodating and had a luggage room so we left our stuff until the room was ready and enjoyed Amsterdam. Get a Strippenkaart and ride the tram it is right outside the hotel's front door and easy to navigate. Take the 197 bus from the airport, 3 euro eighty what a bargain.
“Nice hotel”
A beautiful hotel in a convenient location - room was large and sunny with big windows that opened out over the canal. The area can be a bit noisy at night, however.
“What a perfect hotel!”
This hotel is perfectly located for a city break, within easy walking distance of all the main tourist sites. We arrived around 9:30am and understandably our room was not ready but the staff were warm, helpful and friendly and allowed us to leave our bags until later. When we checked in, the room and bathroom were both spacious and spotless and offered a pleasing view of Amsterdam and her canals. It was a bitterly cold November day but the heating system quickly kicked in and kept us warm and cosy throughout our stay. An extra bonus was the provision of a kettle, tea and coffee in the room, quite a rarity in many European hotels. The room's minibar was not unreasonably priced and therefore we sampled both drinks and snacks - most satisfactory. Some reviews warned of the sound of tram bells disturbing sleep. It did not cause any problems for us on the fifth floor but rather added the character of the city. If I had to find a niggle, it would be that the bar was closed for refurbishment, but with a range of bars and restaurants literally around the corner, it really wasn't a problem and just confirms this hotel is keeping up standards and is on top of its game. We chose not to have breakfast at the hotel as we wanted to explore the city and keep our options open, but the breakfast room looked lovely. Over all well recommended!
“Will use this hotel again”
Great bargain, l expected little but everything exceeded our expectations. Group of 8 in 4 rooms and everyone was pleased with their room. All different, all on different floors but all excellent. We did not use the bar or restaurant as we prefer to eat out on a city break but we took a look and both looked to be of the same high standard.
“Charming”
I booked this through the reviews I read on Expedia and was quite happy. The room was large and very clean. I brewed tea, used the hair-dryer, was quite happy. The Staff was extremely helpful and I enjoyed my stay. The train and tram from the airport to the hotel are fine if you have light baggage or are a lot younger than I am. I personally could not easily get my 19.7 kilo bag up the tram steps and was pleased to book a cab back to the airport for a reasonable rate. Book it the night before, the rate is lower. Unlike many hotel phone systems, I called Indiana from my room and was charged a very reasonable rate. Breakfast was adequate, I would call it Continental plus cereal, cheese, and fruit. I enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend this establishment. This hotel also has an ice-machine on the 1st floor, not advertised but very welcome to many Americans. A good buy for your money.

The Amstel is a more down-to-earth waterway, lined with houseboats and famous for its classic muchphotographed Magere Brug (Skinny Bridge).
