I didn’t like that there is no elevator and the shared toilet and bath. I did’t like the noise around the area. Lighting in the rooms are not satisfactory.

The staff was very gracious and kind. The room was large. The beds were comfortable. We slept with the windows open and could not believe how quiet the area is. The only con is the stairs are straight up as if you were going on a ladder. I would choose hotel again for the walk ability, safety and comfort…if I had a lower floor room.

Loved the staff at Backstage! They were wonderful in giving recommendations and helping us with airport transportation. The area was trendy, young and lively, with lots of restaurant and bar options in walking distance. Would definitely stay again!

Great time overall. Very kitch design that worked well. Stayed in the basement - make sure you keep the window open, that's the only ventilation. Great breakfast, nice atmosphere. Great service and staff are highly attendant to needs. Shower is good, toilets are clean. Easy access after hours with key fob.

Don't be taken aback by the entrance which is a dark and narrow entrance to a pub. The rooms are clean, and the staff are very friendly and helpful. When you make the reservation please be aware that they do have rooms that are sharing bathrooms. It was a big surprise to us but we survive because the bathrooms are very clean.

Cute hotel with great character in a wonderful location - close to restaurants & the canal cruises. The staff were friendly & helpful. Walking distance to many different squares/areas. A few things to be mindful of: no elevator & there are 4 floors. Tiny winding staircase makes it difficult to carry your luggage up. The staff will offer to do it & I would recommend you let them. No air conditioning. Normally not an issue, but we were there in a "heat dome" so it was 30 degrees every day. We were on the 4th floor & it was very hot in our room. They did supply a floor fan which my husband put on the top ledge outside of the room's window to suck the air in. It finally cooled down at around 2 a.m. The safe in our room didn't work. The light in the bathroom was "motion" activated so wouldn't stay on when you were on the toilet or in the shower. We lived with these inconveniences because we liked the location & price & room size. If you are older you should consider staying somewhere with air conditioning & easier stairs (maybe an elevator). Apparently not many hotels in Amsterdam have air conditioning because it never gets that hot. Overall it was a good hotel & they do offer breakfast at a decent price.

The staff was amqzing. So helpful and kind they just seem genuinely happy to be there helping people and obviously love their jobs. Its a great place to stay, it must also be a great place to work.

We made a mistake by booking a room with shared bathroom. The reception tried it's best to accommodate our needs and was quite helpful. Nice room and close to nightlife spots

What you pay for is what you get. I was only staying here for one night anyway so didn’t get the fanciest place. The staff here were great, but the one major drawback were the stairs. It was so hard with the luggage and even climbing them without luggage was hard as they were so steep. No AC either. But the room itself was spacious and nice. Overall pretty decent!

I stayed in room 004, Staff was awesome,ellen,Marcel Thanks for the help. I did forget your charger to return i left it in the room in the outlet by the bathroom. The fan on low drowned out the little street noise.But the sound from the street was part of the charm of this Rock Hotel...Well done.!

Room with a view
The family room with 5 beds was a great deal for us. We loved the little balcony and its view. The beds were comfortable but left little room for suitcases. The bathroom was clean but tight on space, the light would go off automatically and and we would be in the dark while showering.

No walls
The staff are lovely but unfortunately the place is tooooo loud. If you’re a light sleeper like me you won’t be able to sleep at all (even the earplugs didn’t help). The walls are very thin and you can hear absolutely everything, including people taking their clothes off, it’s like the walls don’t exist. Otherwise, it was clean and as I said the staff are very friendly but unfortunately this can’t make up for the fact I couldn’t sleep for the 2 nights I was there.

We didn’t have an air conditioner in our room which is at the top floor. We didn’t have a super hot weather but it was definitely uncomfortable during a day. They do have two fans which was nice but also quite noisy. The best highlight of this hotel is people who work there. They are super ice and helpful. The worst part of this hotel is their staircase. They are so narrow and I am not sure how it can even operate without any safety precautions. We had to throw our luggage downstairs one by one. Also climbing up the stairs are quite challenging for little kids and anyone who has ever leg injuries? Even if you don’t? Overall the location was good.

Really Friendly Staff and Great Location
When I booked the Backstage Hotel I never noticed until a few days before our stay the toilets were shared. This isn't something we would normally go for but after sharing the toilet and staying at the Backstage I would book the same room again. The staff were super friendly and had no problem with us arriving after midnight. The location is lovely with Vondelpark just a few minutes away
