“Great location and affordable”
Since I booked the hotel in October I knew it was in a very good location, but once there I realized how convenient it was to be next to everything. I recommend to book this hotel in advance in order to get the best rates. Hotels in this city are not cheap but with good planning you can maximize your travel money. One thing I want to point out about this hotel, is how friendly, helpful and professional the staff is. I will definetively come back to this hotel.
“Amsterdam American Hotel”
The hotel is in the middle of a square where there is lots to do. It is within walking distance (20 to 30 minutes) of central station or you can pick up the tram right outside (just make sure you get small change because they cannot exchange large bills). The hotel room was small as compared to American rooms, but totally modern. Great beds, so comfy! The rooms were cleaned and inspected each day. Very CLEAN. The staff was friendly and eager to help. The hotel was secure and had you ring in if it was late and state your name and room number. Although I did not feel that the area was not safe and went out late at night. (But would bring a friend, not alone.) I would skip the jazz brunch as it was very expensive and there are plenty of good eats around the hotel. You just have to walk a few steps in the direction toward central station to fins EVERYTHING.
“Hotel to stay in Amsterdam”
If you`re just planning to travel the city, shopping and have some fun, It`s better to stay at Central Station or Led Light District area.
“Wonderful Hotel”
The hotel was truly wonderful in every way. The room was clean and by European standards, quite large. The bathroom was great - huge windows that opened up to face a park down below (we were on the 4th floor). The bathroom also had a bathtub and shower which was great. The service at the receptionist counter was excellent - very good advice on directions, prices for museum entrances, etc. We didn't try the restaurant so I can't speak to that but the restaurant certainly looked beautiful (Art Deco design) and was always pretty full so it must have been good. The location of the hotel is superb - right in the middle of all the action on the Leidseplein. Wonderful location - the first day we just walked out of our room and right into the action of the city.
“Lovely place”
We bumped into this place on the Web and were delighted that we did. The location is perfect, the hotel a touch funky but great fun. We requested but didn't get an exterior room, and, in fact, it made no difference. The room, although it had minimal view, was large, comfortable, sunny and cheerful. We ate in the hotel restaurant our last night because it was raining and we didn't want to go out. As it turned out, the restaurant was simply superb. While the hotel is very good--great value for the price--the restaurant is even better. Simply an excellent restaurant. Finally, the hotel staff was wonderfully helpful without be being servile. All told, we had a excellent stay and would warmly recommend the hotel to anybody. As long as one doesn't need extensive meeting facilities, even business travelers would do well here.
“Awesome”
We arrived in Amsterdam at 6:30 am, too early to check in. The Hotel staff were wonderful. They took care of our bags, and said they would try to get us our room as soon as possible (we had been travelling for about 16 hours and were exhausted but forgot to ask for an early check in). We had a wonderful buffet breakfast at the hotel and then wandered around the city. When we returned at 1pm our room was ready (3 hours early) and it was wonderful. The staff are so kind and the room was so comfortable. I would recommend it to anyone and can't wait to go back!
“Great hotel in a great location”
We arrived very early for checkin (9AM) but our room was available within 15 minutes - time for a relaxing coffee in the restaurant. Room was great - not big but adequate size, Huge bed (which is 2 singles together) which is very comfortable. Staff are very freindly, attentive and helpful. Bar is a nice cosy area - shame it opens only from 5pm and gets busy quickly by locals. Had pre and post dinner drinks in here - recommend the Desert Lime. Breakfast was disapointing - pancakes were prepacked and reheated notfreshly made, not all items advertised available (baked beans)Champagne is availbale in the mrning from the buffet but once the bottle is empty it does not seem to be replensihed as whenever we went there was none there. Near enough to lots of great attractions but far enough away from noise.
“One of the best hotels in Amsterdam”
I have stayed at the Amsterdam American twice now, and on both occasions I found nothing to complain about. The staff are friendly and helpful and the rooms are clean and very comfortable. The hotel as a whole has benefitted from the recent renovations whilst still retaining its original charm. The Amsterdam American is certainly a good place to stay-I won't hesitate to go back there.
“Lovely Hotel”
A lovely hotel in an ideal location. The number 197 bus goes straight from Schiphol Airport to a stop outside the hotel, for 4 Euros. It runs every 15 minutes.
“Very impressed”
Hotel was in the heart of Amsterdam, only a 10 to 20 minute walk to anywhere in the city. Hotel was clean, friendly and pleasant. No breakfast included but nice breakfast places only minutes away ( walking ) and you get to see and feel the pulse of Amsterdam. I recommend this hotel.
