“Nice Experience”
Nice service, I recommend it
“Excellent situation on the sea front”
Good location on the sea front right next to the palace and grounds of the deposed King Farouk. Good to stroll in the grounds. Very helpful staff who can arrange anything for you. Must go to a restaurant on the street behind the hotel called Kabourah and choose your fish and then have it prepared and eaten all very cheaply.
“I recommend”
The view was great. The service was very good. The people were very friendly and accommodating. The rooms were small, though.
“A weekend visit to Alexandria”
I very much enjoyed my stay at the Sheraton Montazah. It's probably not quite a 4 star hotel, but it is clean and nicely appointed. My major complaint is the location. Unless you specifically wish to stay 10 or so miles from the center of Alexandria and willing to take a 25 to 35 minutes cab ride to the heart of the city, including the great library, the Museum, Cavafy apartment, this hotel is too far off the beaten path. The neighborhood around Montazah was fun to explore, with many fine restaurants, but closer to the heart of the city would be better. If you don't have time to explore, the hotel restaurants are fine, but it's really worth exploring the neighborhood The hotel staff is fine, but taking the hotel cars into, instead of cabs on the street, is really a waste of money.
“Sheraton in Alex, bit disappointing for a Sheraton”
Alex hotels are not of the same standard as Cairo hotels, so don't expect that. Where the hotel is is fine, Alex has a long frontage and this hotel is at the far end but away from the older more run down part of town. However the overall experience was tarnished by "not quite getting things right". Firstly we booked a double non-smoking room which upon arrival we were told were all gone. A choice of twin bedded or a smoking double - not a good start! The room was okay but you would not expect a switched off mini bar fridge, empty, a TV not working on the first night, dirty marks all over the duvet, and 30 minute wait for towels before we could have shower. They were busy as it was in the festival of Eid, but again, a hotel of this standard, and price, should cope. The food in the hotel is okay but nothing to write home about.
“part of today's Egypt”
it was a high season, and you should expect in Egypt to get eveyrthing in a different way, the reception were partially helpful, the reception area was small, ROOM SERVICE WAS HELPFUL AND POLITE
“Wonderful pleasant staff.”
The hotel staff was sweet, kind, wonderful I cant say enough about how warm and friendly they ALL were. It is an older hotel. Clean yes, but its time for a make over. The floor creaks when you walk and the ceiling are low and it has a ship cabin feeling. My husband suggested changing hotels HOWEVER it was the staffing and the generious wonderful feeling the people who work there kept us there. The price was good. The food was excellant. And as I have said the people were most excellant. We are picky travellers, being from OC Calif we want a bit to much. But if you have excellant service, thats really the important thing.
“Fair”
I have stayed at better hotels for a lot less. I felt the room was smaller than what I booked. I feel the pricing of the tour that they arranged was a little high and the taxi driver did not take us to all the sites we agreed upon. We missed out on the Souq shopping and the animal park. I became ill from the Prawn Dish later I ate. We were slapped with an extra charge for our Taxi Tour Driver that we would not have gotten had we stayed with the driver that brought us from the airport. We also were slapped with an extra charge from the driver that took us back to the airport. On our first afternoon there we wanted a drink and were given something that we did not order. The room was clearly set up as a single room upon our arrival and I requested an extra glass. You would've thought I was asking for Gold!! The surrounding neighborhood was very native. I would've liked to have seen more tourist type surroundings and been alerted about activities and concerts that were in Egypt upon our hotel arrival so we could've made better plans for our short visit there. I had to use the Water Closet and there was a wedding going on in the room the WC was in. The bride stared at me like I had three heads and acted insulted that I had interrupted her wedding! It's not my fault the hotel is laid out that way!!! There were several men standing around outside the doors to this room the reception was in and it made me a little nervous.
“Not impressed”
I had not too much time to check in because I was visiting Alexandria just for one day yet they took a long time to check me in despite telling them so. The hotel needs maintenance, the water didn't flow well in the sink for example.
“Good but be Careful”
In order to enjoy your stay at Sheraton Alex, especially if you have booked it through expedia offers, you have to be less picky and meticulous than you normally are. Don't count much on the of the room sizes you perceive when you have looked at the posted pictures. The problem is related only to your own perception. Also, you need to forget about some room spec you read on the website as long as any variation of this key phrase lies somewhere between the lines: "according to availability"; be it a "sea view" or any other option, it doesn't matter. Just cancel! Apart from that, you will enjoy your stay at the Sheraton Alex especially when you let the house keeping leave you the air-freshener can inside your room. This can save you from calling them again every time you want to enter the bathroom. Don't get me wrong. The stay was pretty much pleasant in all other aspects. If I have to spend the same budget on some future vacation, I'll go there again. Good value for money.
