“I would go back!”
I was really happy with this hotel! The bed was typical firm for Mexico, but the room was spotless, had the most amazing veiw! ( we were on the 7th floor). Loved the fresh towels in the evening, makes total sense since you come up from the pool and/or beach in the evening and shower for the night. The location was nice and central, you could walk right out to the main strip and grab a cab or a costera bus (5 to 6 pesos depending on A/C or not) or even walk to anywhere ie. Walmart (for water bottles), starbucks, banks/ATMs, tons of great little cafes and restaurants. We did all 3. They had a super nice area on the beach roped off with chairs, palapas, and bar/restaurant service if you so desired. It was a little difficult to get a waiter on the beach the second day, not sure why. We made sure to go to the breakfast buffet one morning since the reviews I read said it was so good. And we were NOT disappointed. Everything was delicious, wonderful variety and great service. The constant selling on the beach can get annoying, wear sunglasses, some do even come through the roped area. The pool looked very nice although we just wanted to be on the beach. Based on previous reviews, I made sure to always turn my beach towels in. It was for a short trip, but we had a fantastic time!!
“Elcano: rapport qualité-prix idéal”
Absolument idéal pour le repos, endroit très bien entretenu, tranquille. Situation parfaite, avec une plage de l'hôtel. On y mange bien et l'hôtel est proche de bons restaurants. Je n'ai aucun point négatif à signaler, après un séjour de 11 jours, et espère vivement y retourner.
“Without a doubt I will Stay here again”
El Cano is a very well maintained hotel in the heart of the downtown district in Acapulco. We chose El Cano after looking at several hotels during past trips to Acapulco. For us this was the perfect Hotel. The size (160 rooms) keeps it small enough that the facilities are not overrun. You really don’t have to compete to get a nice spot around the pool or on the beach. The staff is both friendly and helpful. Due to the recent bad publicity Acapulco was way down in terms of tourists. Because of this we were able to upgrade to a penthouse suite very reasonably. The suite was beautiful townhouse style with a jaccuzzi on the second floor it has patio doors on both ends allowing the ocean breeze in all the time. The regular rooms are very nice however and would have served us well had the upgrade not been available. Avoid the rooms on the first floor as the palm trees block your view of the Bay. Many of the travelers were there on an all inclusive package that was not available on the web sites we checked. The food at the Hotel was what one would expect from an all inclusive. I would have liked to have had more meals at the hotel but the prices without being all inclusive were way to high for the quality of these amenities. I would have preferred either higher quality food and drink or lower prices. Being in the heart of downtown Acapulco one has so many choices for food and drink I actually prefer sampling other venues anyway.
“Elcano Acapulco - excellent value, great hotel”
My husband and I stayed at the Elcano Hotel during American Thanksgiving week. The timing was good because it is just prior to the high season, but with low season prices. Although the hotel is a few years old, it is very well maintained. All rooms are ocean/bay view and the standard room with king bed is very spacious with a large sitting area with a central round marbel table, two stuffed chairs and a small sofa. The balcony was large with comfortable teak chairs and table. Service was excellent. The restaraunt gives you the choice of buffet or ala carte. The ala carte menu was large and the food quality excellent. It included some really interesting dishes at a very fair price. Restaraunt service was prompt and attentive. Pool is good size with some interesting features like built-in jaccuzzis along one side and a "reflective tanning" area along the other side (essentially a wide area with a few inches of water designed to lay in. It's not a huge pool, but is the right size for the hotel. Plenty of lounge chairs. Many good places to eat within walking distance. Catch one of the many busses on the main drag for only 5 pesos and you can go anywhere (malls, old town, etc). On a very nice beach. For us, a very nice change from the huge all-inclusives... We would definitely return.
“my hotel experience”
the hotel staff was very helpful ,room was very clean everyday, clean towels and sheets too the restaurant had a variety of food, the only problem was pigeons were everywhere and they were sneaky because if you leave your table they will eat your food.
“clean and nice”
the could work better but I really like it cold....... I stayed here a few times the last couple years..... its always nice .... its just acapulco is changing soooooo much...... but its a clean and nice hotel but price vary soo much at times...
“Nice people, great beach”
The Elcano is a clean & friendly place. We had great breakfasts in the hotel practically every day & it was delicious. Aside from one person often at the front desk who seemed a bit less than friendly -- not a big deal, just not the ideal way to be greeted -- the staff was really great. The place is worn with age and could use a little upgrade -- for example, new curtains in the rooms that are a little less dingy -- but that did not interfere at all with our enjoyment. At the time we were there (Christmas 2011), we did not see any other Americans, which for us was great because it was the more Mexican experience that we like. The location as far as the beach and the distance to restaurants was perfect for us (but may not be enough action for someone in their 20s). The view from the room was gorgeous.
“Met my expectations”
Hotel claims that all water in the hotel is treated to be safe, but on a prior trip to Acapulco (I don't remember which hotel) I got very sick despite the claim, so I never drink water from the tap in Mexico. If you don't want to drink the tap water they have bottled water in the rooms, but they charge MX$17 for about half a litre. You can get good bottled water at a fair price at the OXXO store one block away at the Casa Blanca hotel. Apart from this annoyance the hotel is fine.
“It adequately served the purpose.”
It was my understanding that each room would have a fold out couch and that was not the case. We were told that roll-away beds were also not an option. Other than that, the service was friendly and the environment was clean and well kept. I might also mention that we ate at the hotel restaurant the first night and we were a bit shocked by the prices. For 6 of us our tab came to approx. $140. I had a bowl of soup that was over $6. The hotel entertainment was wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the mariachis and the evening pianist.
“Good Hotel specially traveling as family with children.”
I've stayed in this hotel several times and I continue to think it is one of the best hotels in traditional Acapulco. I found this time that the hotel is in need of a complete overhaul, it is starting to look old (the El Cano is an Old Hotel of the 60's that has been overhauled several times). Still, if you go in a family trip or as a senior citizen, it is one of the best places to stay.
