"Idyllic, quiet and very pleasing to the eye"
Away on business with husband and needed somewhere quiet but comfortable to rest ones weary head. This location certainly worked well. The staff were very courteous and obliging and nothing was too much trouble. Everywhere was clean and tidy including the bedrooms and the restaurant. Everybody did their fare share of work and all mucked in to get the job done. Been to lots of different hotels but this one came top of our wish list. Food was not cheap but was very good. Breakfast was buffet style but was being replenished all the time so nothing ever ran out.

"Relaxing hotel in beautiful grounds and great food"
My husband and I left our kids with family and took a rare night away on our own. This hotel was perfect to escape to, really welcoming and helpful staff, a great room with superb views of the extensive grounds, lots of space and a super comfy sofa to lounge on. Nice feature fireplace and nice touches like fresh flowers and home made biscuits. My only (really minor) dislike was the bed was a bit soft for my taste, although not unacceptably soggy. Generously sized bathroom too which looked recently refurbished. We had a dinner, B&B deal with Expedia so ate in the restaurant. As the hotel only has 10 rooms this wasn't overly busy. Again the waiting staff were excellent and attentive without being overly intrusive and were knowledgeable about the menu. The food is excellent and deserves the awards it has won. The portions aren't massive but judged so that I felt quite content at the end of the meal. The breakfast was also extremely good! Would definitely go back if the opportunity arises.

"Just Ok"
Nothing particularly special. Got room upgrade to a Connesseur room but didn't appear any different to a standard premier inn room. 3 different staff told us 3 different breakfast times hence we missed it

"Nice hotel in the country"
Good value and ideal for using Oxford Park and ride. Well decorated and furnished. Breakfast good, dinner menu average fare but inexpensive. Only real downside is car park located across busy road and noise from weddings (if applicable).

"Quaint hotel with excellent breakfast"
We slept 4 in a room which worked well for us. Good sized bathroom and very clean. Nice bar downstairs. Excellent breakfast cooked to order. We were surprised that we could barely hear the trains. I highly recommend.

"Pleasant hotel "
Friendly reception staff. Clean, large room but slightly dated, but silly things that were a bit annoying. Well stocked tea/coffee tray was on the window sill but the only accessible plug for the kettle was near the floor so ended up leaving the tray on the floor. The lights were too dim, even when on full - it just felt murky. The walls were ridiculously thin. We heard the people in the next room brushing their teeth and chatting about their plans for the day. The window frames were in really poor condition and didn't seem very secure. Good looking breakfast menu but sadly the food wasn't particularly well prepared. Cheap, thinnest bread I've ever seen and pretty ropey coffee. One morning I ordered poached egg on toast and the egg hadn't been drained after cooking and was plonked onto a piece of dry brown toast. Wet, wafer thin toast. Awful! Plus the hollandaise sauce on the eggs Benedict I had on another day actually had no flavour and again, the eggs weren't drained so made the muffin wet and soggy. I've never eaten anything that didn't taste of anything at all! The breakfast just seemed very cheaply made. And the plates were cold. I hate cold plates. However, the location is good, there's lots of free parking, the staff were lovely and it was in a pretty area. I would return but would probably avoid the food.

    Abingdon Hotels Guide

Abingdon is a quiet town on the banks of the Thames, and one of the oldest settlements in Britain. The town centre is dominated by the handsome former county hall which is now a museum, and the almshouses behind St. Helen's church are worth strolling around. Abingdon maintains the tradition of Morris Dancing, and every midsummer holds a traditional parade to elect a mock mayor.
