Abingdon is a quiet town on the banks of the Thames, and one of the oldest settlements in Britain. The town centre is dominated by the handsome former county hall which is now a museum, and the almshouses behind St. Helen's church are worth strolling around. Abingdon maintains the tradition of Morris Dancing, and every midsummer holds a traditional parade to elect a mock mayor.
