There was quite a lot of construction going on around the hotel which was a bit annoying. Once inside the experience was exceptional. The hotel is maintained very well, the service and the food were excellent and the staff made me feel as if I were the only guest in the hotel.
This hotel has character... Admittedly it's the character of a 19th Century manor house whose family has fallen on hard times - but compared the the blandness and uniformity of most hotels, it's a welcome change. The rooms are clean, comfortable, and quiet. The staff aren't big on friendliness, but that fits perfectly with the English-style architecture.
Very good service, no surprises except one thing: The room always smelled of old cigarette smoke when I came back to it at night. Other than that, this was an excellent choice for me, as I needed a room, a WiFi internet connection and not much else.
