This place is an absolute bargain - with an incredible view of the cathedral and a river running right through the back garden. Wonderful place.

"Great location for Paultons Park & Peppa Pig World"
Lovely rural location but easy access to Salisbury and Portsmouth plus very close to Peppa Pig World, if that's your thing. Rooms were lovely and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We ate at the Indian restaurant located next door and it was fantastic. Totally recommend the hotel and the restaurant.

"Looks Great, Service Slightly Disappointing"
My wife and I recently stayed at the Neeld Arms, as nearby Bath was fully booked and we needed to be in Bath early on the Sunday morning. The building was beautiful to look at, promising much on arrival. We had an OK stay but would not return. We took bed and breakfast and stayed for an evening meal. The top floor bedroom was spacious and not too cold though it was chilly outside. The large double bed proved creaky and uncomfortable: we both had backache next morning. The bathroom was fine: water was roasting and shower pressure was good, but very cramped with a wooden ceiling beam set (disconcertingly) right at head height. Evening meal was very disapppinting. Given that we were paying guests in the biggest room, the squint table by the toilet door was a let down - even worse when you had to locate it yourself. It's a forgotten corner of the bar and our service proved just that. I had to go to the bar to collect my own drink, and the wife's wine was served in a glass plastered in lipstick. Food was not great - my whitebait was the worst I have ever tasted and the rest was amateur. I don't mean charming amateur. The redeeming feature was breakfast, which was shambolic in organisation - managed by a new starter with no training, and accompanied by a noisy dishwasher switched on after we sat down - but the food was really excellent. I'd recommend the Neeld Arms for a quick overnight stay, but only if you're easy-going.

"Excellent Experience"
I don't know why all the 1-star reviews; I had an utterly pleasant experience at the Bear Hotel! I will confirm the presence of the bar previously complained about - it is there, and it draws a crowd, but it wasn't so loud that I noticed from the room. Paul and Cheryl were excellent hosts (appreciate you two putting out some cereal for me when I left WELL before the scheduled breakfast hours), the room charming, comfy, and clean. Did not notice any faults in the rest of the facilities as previously noted by other reviewers. Location of the hotel is a nice bonus too, right at the head of the main street, so access to anything and everything is easy as pie. Short and sweet, the hotel is aged, but is full of the associated charm that comes with such a place. And I'd rather stay at a place like the Bear where the staff is so personable as opposed to a "Ritz" where the desk doesn't remember my name.

"An excellent welcome"
I have visited this hotel twice and consider it good value given the cost and facilities. All the staff are friendly, helpful and ready to do just that bit extra that makes you feel welcome. Food is well prepared and presented, and uses quality local ingredients. Some rooms may be just starting to look a little frayed at the edges but overall it is a good place to stay.

"Excellent Value"
We booked this last minute and paid a good price for family room with breakfast. On arrival the lady on reception was exceptionally friendly and as I am a blue badge holder they supplied on site parking. The room was comfortable and clean with all we needed for an overnight stay. We went out for a meal and on our return there was free coffee/tea in the reception area. Breakfast was much better than expected with plenty for everybody.
