"Fantastic Views, basic but lovely!"
The room had an amazing view, was a short walk down to the beach (3 mins!) close to town but very quiet. Owners were friendly, picked us up from the airport and dropped us where we wanted to go. Great for people on a budget!

"Good Choice for those who prefer an apartment."
First time in Split so going blind on location and comfort. Globo Travel, who runs the service very helpful in getting an early check in as I arrived on the morning ferry. Modern apartment in fine condition located within walking distance of harbor and old town. Price for one bedroom apartment same as a very small hotel room in London.

"Hard to find but great once found."
Malena was a great host, was a bit hard to find but she found me. Room was so clean cozy and comfy. View of bell tower. Quite at night and the most COMFORTABLE bed! So comfy Malena had to knock on the door to wake me up and ready the place for the next guest. Did not want to get out of that bed! Juice and fresh cherries on my arrival and mini Split briefing. Highly recommend. Great experience to stay within the walls of the palace and cant beat the price!

Villa Marjela

Jobova 5, Split - Map
"Hidden value - highly recommended"
We stayed at Villa Marjela for 3 nights in May 2010. It is a small hotel in the suburbs between the Hayduk Stadium and the old town - which is a pleasant 10 min walk away. The rooms were a good size, clean and comfortable even though furnishings are slightly spartan. The breakfast was continental style - meats, cheese, boiled egg and bread - but all nice and fresh - and plenty of it. The hotel has really friendly & helpful staff . They provided directions etc and also pointed out good local restaurants away from the tourist areas that were mainly frequented by locals. (We loved the seafood restaurant on the marina - a very pleasant 5 - 10 mins walk from the hotel - where you can watch the "catch of the day" and "daily specials" being delivered at the quay side) It can be difficult to find the first time - particularly if arriving by car - so email when booking and get directions. Even the sat nav only took us within 200m and we could not see it. But the friendly locals pointed it out to us - without laughing!! The hotel is set amongst the old communist style apartment towers so the neighborhood does not look all that flash - however, everyone we met in the area were welcoming, friendly and helpful even at the local shop. The hotel can be hard to find if arriving by car - so email for clear directions - even the sat nav only got us within 200 metres and we had to ask locals where it was hidden. A great place to stay in Split, very good value & we would stay there again!

Dalmatian Villas

"Great location - OK room"
What we got was what we expected - a slightly dated but comfortable and perfectly located apartment in a charming "villa" just outside of the palace walls. On the downside, the quality of the fixtures and fittings barely justifies the 3-star rating; that said, everything was clean and comfortable and the A/C unit worked a charm. It was 38 degrees when we landed in Split so the A/C was vital! On the upside, the location was absolutely prime. We were a short (less than 5 minute) stroll from the Golden Gate into Diocletian's Palace and to all the attractions of the old town. The apartment was the perfect "home base" to plan your day; to return to, to cool down or to take a siesta; or to strike out from in search of evening drinks or dinner. Only complaint: the approach to service was pretty casual - not an issue generally, we are pretty self-reliant, but we had a bit of a problem when there was no one around for check out. We ended up dropping the keys in a mailbox and setting off for our next destination.

"Pleasantly Surprised at this Homestay-style Experience"
When booking this place, keep in mind that it's not a hotel per se- it's much more like a homestay experience than a hotel. The lady who owns the place is very nice though! The place is located in a great place- it's quite close to the Diocletian's palace (around 2 min walk to the nearest entrance), but yet it's removed enough from the palace for it to be very quiet and private. It's around a 15 minute trek from the bus stop area, so keep that in mind, especially if you have heavy/large pieces of luggage that may be a bit difficult to roll over cobblestone sections of the roads to the place. If you're looking for a very affordable and convenient place to stay in Split. then this is highly recommended.

Pocket Guide: Split Split 3 stars Pet-friendly Hotels

Commanding a splendid coastal site, its palm-lined seafront promenade backed by rugged mountains, Split is Croatia’s second city after Zagreb. The UNESCO-listed old town lies within the walls of Emperor Diocletian’s 3rd-century Roman palace. The pedestrian-only, marble-paved streets and piazzas are filled with medieval stone buildings, cafes and boutiques. Daily ferries serve the nearby islands and many yacht charter companies are based here.
