Situated in the northern hills of San Diego, Rancho Bernardo is about 17 miles inland from ocean beaches. Dozens of golf courses dot the area. Bernardo Winery, founded in 1889, is the oldest continuously operating winery in Southern California. Scripps Ranch, south of Rancho Bernardo, was developed as a health spa in the 1890s. Today, it's a thriving suburb with abundant outdoor recreation.
