Ordinarily I would have rated the hotel at about 4 because there was no minibar in the room. However, Giovanni, the proprietor, allows you to use the kitchen and the refrigerator. Thus, you have all of the comforts of being at your home. The hotel is located right in the center of Ortygia on an upscale shopping street. You are within easy walking distance of everything you will want to see on the island. If you are arriving at the train or bus station, there is a city bus that serves the island about every half hour. If you miss the bus or can't find the stop, it is only about a 15 minute walk to the hotel. What will make your stay here special is the fact that Giovanni is a most gracious host. He has a remarkable grasp of the history of Siracusa, and will basically serve as your personal tour advisor should you desire.

On the plus side, the Artemide is very well situated in Ortigia - close to the sea, and walking distance to the central Piazza Duomo. The free Ortigia-round shuttle passes very close-by. Our room was very clean. We were surprised to find that breakfast was available in Piazza Archimede - a five minute walk from the B&B - and not on site. We were given tickets to present each day at the Bar Centrale. Very nice pastries both savoury and sweet available and coffee. However, breakfast only included one coffee and one pastry each. If you wanted more, you had to pay - coffee Euros 2.50 a cup and pastries from Euros 2.00. We are two coffee people, and it adds up on top of room rate. It turned out that it was very pleasant to have breakfast here and watch the world go by, but we should have been told in advance.
The big minus for the Artemide for us was the beds. The mattresses and pillows appeared to be constructed of bricks, and were the most uncomfortable we have ever experienced in any hotel or B&B. We suffered sleepless nights, as it was literally impossible to get comfortable. Such a shame - spoiled our stay. Other minus was we were asked to pay in cash - no credit card payment facility available.
Beatiful area, very friendly and helpful staff close to the warfe and market area.
walk to everything. Excellent breakfast. room was small but very comfortable and memorable !! Parking is about 200m from the hotel. Can't wait to go back !!

As soon as you step inside the entrance lobby, it feels as if you are in a boutique hotel that blends perfectly with the streets of Ortigia. This is only enhanced by the exposed stone features and quality furnishings in the other public areas on the ground floor. The library/lounge is particularly delightful. We stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment, (room 9), with an airy lounge and shared patio balcony. Plenty of space if a little functional. The small kitchen area and fridge came in handy for the odd lunch or aperativo.
What's not to like? We had a "mini suite" - plenty of room to move around. On arrival, we pulled right up to the B&B and then the receptionist jumped in the car to help us find appropriate parking! Breakfast was excellent, with many interesting selections. Wifi worked. Good advice offered also re restaurants in the area. The only downside is steep stairs to climb, but if stairs are not an issue for you, the B&B La Via della Giudecca is a great choice!

The B&B is in a great location. We managed to park almost outside but be careful you only park in a white bay as the yellow ones are for residents and only the day before the police had fined 3 groups of guests who were not aware of this and parked in the yellow spaces.
The rooms are huge with probably the most comfortable beds we have ever slept in. You have a safe and mini fridge. There is terrace on the top floor with swing seats and comfy sofas they could make more use of with say a small bar.
There are religious symbols and paintings around but none of this is oppressive. We had a nun show us where to have breakfast which was novel!
