Walking distance to restaurants and public transportation. Right on the water. Very nice stay! Loved the new bar with bar inside and outside. Two pool tables and a shuffleboard table for entertainment.

"25th Anniversary stay"
This hotel should be kept secret as once you have stayed you will want to keep the experience to yourself. The relaxed and friendly welcome remained throughout our stay, allowing you to feel as though you were in your own home. Breakfast is communal but this just adds to the relaxed atmosphere - everyone sharing conversation as though old friends rather than passing interactions that will be lost in time. The rooms are exceptional and each room had its own style that reflected the house and its history, whilst offering facilities that you would expect in high end accommodation.

Admiral Farragut Inn

"An Oasis of Elegance and Quiet"
The 5 properties that comprise the Admiral Farragut Inns on Clarke Street in downtown Newport are worth writing home about. Dating from as early as 1750, they are filled with charm and elegance. We stayed at the Melville House, surrounded by beautiful summer flowers. The management worked with my 19-year old daughter, partner and I to settle upon appropriate arrangements for us; one single and a double with an adjoining bathroom. The properties are spotless. The breakfast nooks and dining rooms (you can have breakfast at any of the properties) are further delightful, and the breakfast equally satisfying. The beds are super comfortable, and the place is spotless. The owner, Rick, is a garrulous, friendly soul pointed me to a secluded beach where I could feel like one of the locals and sunbathe, to bring out my tan for the dress I was wearing to my nephew's wedding in town. That's the thing: you really feel like a local at these inns, but you are treated like royalty. Right around the corner, if you want it, is all the shopping and tourist madness, so you've got the best of both worlds. I really loved every moment of it. The parking's a bit dicey, but the management has worked it out beautifully. Prices are reasonable and competitive. Plenty of hot water. Our room overlooked a gorgeous home with brilliant gardens, where I watched someone doing yoga serenely amongst the hydrangeas.

"Musty Odor"
The room appeared clean and comfortable enough. The issue was a pervasive musty odor which required the purchase of a can of Lysol. I stayed at this hotel over the Memorial Day weekend and had the same issue. Otherwise pleasant enough.

"Nice place to stay"
This hotel was very nice and clean. I would surely go there again, but there is one thing I will handle differently. We arrived at 1pm, check in is at 4. The person at the front desk took our cell number and called us when the room was ready. Next time we will get there a little later. This woman was extremely nice. We went back to the hotel after the call and stood at the front desk for a good ten minutes. The woman I dealt with earlier was not at the desk, but there was another woman in a room to the side who looked at my son and I, but didn't say anything. I went to her and asked her if the person working at the desk was available and she replied, "I am in this room doing something" as if to tell me not to bother her. She came to the desk and told me I would have to wait for the computers to "change over" because the shifts change at 3pm. (this is at 3:15) I was very tired from being in the car for the last 7 hours, so whatever. My son went back to her to find out where we could get 2 additional pillows and the same woman says "In the closet?" It was said in the form of a sarcastic question as if the kid is stupid. The tone her question was posed to him should have had a "duh" on the end of it. I'm sure this woman is a wonderful person as long as she isn't asked to do anything. Everyone else that works there was nothing but nice. Maybe a customer service refresher class is in order.

"Fabulous B&B near attractions of downtown Newport"
Our stay at the Almondy Inn was terrific. The B&B was centrally located in the city and provided easy access to everything. The B&B was clean and beautifully decorated and provided a relaxing stay while in Newport. Evelyne and her husband are excellent innkeepers and make you feel welcome along with a marvelous breakfast.
