"Convenient and affordable"
Good access to many sightseeing spots. Requested to leave our bags before check-in, not only they gladly accepted it, but they were in our room when we checked-in. Staffs were very courteous. Reasonable size of room for the price for Tokyo.

"Hôtel agréable, quartier Ueno, proche métro"
Hotel qui m'avait été conseillé. Bon rapport qualité prix. Ce n'est pas un Ryokan, hôtel traditionnel, mais plutôt un hôtel standard pour gens de passages.

"The listed room size is inaccurate"
The rooms are listed as being for two people, but there's no way two people can fit comfortably in one of these rooms. (As far as I can tell all of the rooms are the same size.)

"Nice hotel not far from Ueno Station"
I stayed in a number of hotels across Japan on this trip and this was the nicest. The Wi-Fi was excellent, and the staff was very friendly.

"Home away from home"
I love this place! The location is great: a block and a half from the Inaricho subway station, and an easy walk to Ueno Station and Asakusa. They have free wi-fi for the growing number of people who want/need it, but they also still have free Internet computers available in the lobby for those few (like me) who prefer to travel without an array of electronic devices. Another very helpful amenity: I left to go to Osaka and came back a week later, and they stored my excess luggage for free in the interim (they'll do this if you have a reservation up to a month in the future). The place where I stayed in Osaka was posher and more of a "grown-up" hotel, but Oak Hotel's youth hostel-esque ambience was much more appealing to me. Best of all was the staff. Most (possibly all?) of the front desk staff seemed to be able to speak English -- at least one of them spoke it VERY well -- though my Japanese is decent enough that I tried to avoid using English as much as possible, so I didn't really get much of a feel for their level of English expertise. They were very friendly, and it was enjoyable just chatting with them.

"Low key cozy hotel"
Well starting off this hotel is sort of hidden. We used google maps and still had trouble locating this hotel. We managed to spot it's subtle sign and discovered the main entrance on the second floor. The hotel staff was nice and spoke very decent English so we didn't have any trouble. The hotel is traditional Japanese style so you have to take your shoes off at the entrance and put them in a locker. The room was small but did it's perhaps since we are there to see Japan and not the room. The beds were very comfortable considering you sleep on the floor. It was cozy and look sort of like a family business if I were to guess which gives it a homey feel. There was only one bath for each gender and you had to wash yourself the traditional Japanese way which is wash outside the bath and then get in the bath. It was an interesting experience. Overall I recommend this hotel for a good price and being close to things in the main part of the city.

"A hotel with great location"
If you want to visit the UENO area, here is your best choice. I was so surprising that they just located beside the UENO station. There are so many restaurants that you don't have to worry about eating. Returning to hotel after 1am, you need to push the ringing bell to enter, that's the only thing you have concern about.

Pocket Guide: Tokyo Ueno 2 stars Hotels

This area offers a glimpse of what life was like before the economic boom of the 1970s and 1980s. Neighboring Asakusa, it is best known for the Ameya-yokocho Arcade, a busy market with interesting stalls. Ueno-koen, a sprawling park with monuments, zoo, pagodas, and a pond, is a must-do. Museums and galleries abound in the area.
