The marvel of its age, this splendid chateau was begun in 1668, taking over 20 years to convert a hunting lodge into Europes largest palace. Many of its rooms were stripped during the Revolution and still lie bare, but Versailles grandeur and magnificent formal gardens are unsurpassed.
